Board Members

Dr Arun Subbiah - Chairman

Dr. Subbiah has over 25 years experience in the international oil and gas industry with over 15 years experience at Shell in E&P and strategic planning and economics in Nigeria, UK and the Netherlands.  He co-founded Petro Russo Holdings (a 10,000 bpd producer) in 1998 which was sold for US$115 million.


Dr. Subbiah has a PhD and BSc in Physics from King’s College, London and an MSc in Management from the London Business School.


He is currently on the Boards of Diamond Gas and Red Rock Energy and is a co-founder of GOGE.
 

Dr Joshua Udofia - Executive Director

Dr. Udofia has over 36 years experience in the oil & gas industry. He is the former Deputy Managing Director of Shell Nigeria and was a Senior Corporate Advisor on Nigeria at Shell Centre. 

 

He was the Chairman of the Nigerian Society of Petroleum Engineers during 1980.

 

Dr. Udofia has a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Birmingham.

 

Past Board memberships include fifteen years as a Director at Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria. He has also held Director positions within Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Ltd, Shell Ultra Deep Company, Shell Trustees Nigeria and Clean Nigeria Associates. He also served on the Board of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group during 2003/4 and was honoured with a Doctorate Degree by the University of Makurdi for his services to engineering in Nigeria.  Dr. Udofia is a co-founder of GOGE.

 

Mr Teck Soon Kong - Executive Director

Mr Kong spent 31 years with Shell, including 5 years as advisor to the Saudi Minister of Petroleum & Mineral Resources. Following his retirement from Shell in 1996 he became the former Chairman/CEO of Nelson Resources and former COO/CEO of Nimir Petroleum.

 

Mr Kong has a BSc (Hons) in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College, University of London.

 

He is currently on the Board of Sukar Resources Plc, Dhow Services Limited, Sterling Resources Ltd and Noble Denton Group Ltd. Mr Kong is also a co-founder of GOGE.


 

Sir Graham Burton - Non-Executive Director

Sir Graham Burton spent 40 years in the British Diplomatic Service and has 30 years experience in the Middle East. He served as Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates from 1990 to 1994, after which he was Ambassador to Indonesia until 1997 when he moved to Nigeria for four years as British High Commissioner.

 

A non-executive director of Magadi Soda Company since 2001, he is also an advisor to the Board of Control Risks Group. Additionally he is a trustee of the Royal Commonwealth Society for the Blind.

 

Mr Pascal G. Dozie - Non-Executive Director

An economics graduate of the London School of Economics and a holder of an M.Sc. from the City University London, Mr Dozie is a seasoned economist, econometrist, consultant and banker.

 

Mr. Pascal Dozie is the current Chairman of MTN Nigerian Communications Ltd, a former Chairman of the Board of Diamond Bank Plc and is a former President of the Nigerian Stock Exchange.

 

He has extensive money and capital market experience and an in-depth knowledge of aviation finance. A recipient of a national award of Officer of the Order of the Niger, he has received three honorary degrees for his contribution to business in Nigeria. Mr Dozie is highly regarded in the finance sector of Nigeria for his very significant contribution.

 

Mr Roderick William Perry - Non-Executive Director

Mr Perry has a BSc in Physics and is a member of the Institution of Electrical Engineers .

 

He was global head of Venture Capital for 3i plc from 2001 to 2005 and was a member of the board of 3i Group plc within the Executive and Investment committees. Between 1997 and 2001 Mr Perry was responsible for the 3i investment business in Asia Pacific. After joining 3i in 1985, he spent four years with the global technology sector and a further five years as CIO.

 

He is a non-executive director of Partygaming plc and is currently a consultant to 3i Group, as well as holding positions as an advisor to Ithmar Capital in Dubai and non-executive director and senior independent director to Indago Petroleum.

 

Mr Meb Somani - Non-Executive Director

Mr Somani heads Actis' investment activities in the Oil & Gas sector. He was previously Managing Director at the M&A advisory boutique Harrison Lovegrove & Co (now part of Standard Chartered Bank), where he advised clients on acquisitions and divestments valued at several billion dollars in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

 

Prior to that, he spent twenty years at Shell and Texaco in various upstream and midstream commercial and operations management roles in Europe, Middle East, Central and South East Asia. He began his career working as a petroleum engineer on North Sea oil rigs.

 

Mr Somani has a first class honours degree in Petroleum Engineering from Imperial College London and an MBA from Henley Management College.


 

Mr Simon Harford - Non-Executive Director


Mr Harford is responsible for Actis’ investment activities in West Africa, based in Lagos.  He joined Actis in mid-2006, having already been working in Nigeria since 2004 as founder and CEO of Virgin Nigeria, the private sector flag carrier airline for Nigeria.


Mr Harford’s earlier career was based in Europe and North America encompassing investment banking (Warburg) and strategy consulting (Boston Consulting Group), then in senior management roles in British Airways and in various entrepreneurial ventures in Europe and the Middle East. 


He holds a BA (Hons) in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University, and an MBA from INSEAD (France).
