The Uquo field is a growth anticlinal complex comprising of four hydrocarbon bearing accumulations discovered by Shell (SPDC). The discovery well, Uquo -1, was drilled in 1958 and tested both oil and gas in more than nine separate reservoir intervals. These accumulations were appraised by three other wells but have remained undeveloped to date. Uquo is situated close to existing oil and gas infrastructure.
- circa. 8km from ExxonMobil's Qua Ibo oil export terminal
- circa. 100km from NLNG (Bonny) export terminal
- circa. 110km from EGLNG (Boiko Island)
- circa. 20km from Ibom Power plant
Geology
The Uquo field productive sequence is contained within a series of structures in faulted Tertiary deltaic sediments. The Early Miocene Agbada formation is the primary reservoir throughout the delta, which is sealed with the interbedded Agbada clay intervals. The intra-reservoir shale thicknesses increase towards the east of the delta, which has provided improved seal capacity holding hydrocarbon columns larger than average.
Exploration History
Since the field was discovered in 1958, three further wells have been drilled (Uquo 2 – 4) which have discovered three separate (or partially separated) hydrocarbon structures, within which a total of 15 hydrocarbon-bearing reservoir accumulations exist. Of these, 10 have been evaluated as gas bearing, two are proven oil bearing formations through production and a further three have been evaluated as being probably oil bearing. An additional nine significant low risk prospects have also been identified from the 3D seismic interpretation.
GOGE and their joint venture partner are due to drill two appraisal/development wells (Uquo 5 and Uquo 6) in first half 2008.
